Suspended Afternoons

Early on, when I was still a student wondering about the possibility of functionality in art, I decided to base my work on my own differences from the normative. So I descended into the darkest cellars of my experience, submerging myself once again in the urban shadows, no longer in search of pleasure and evasion but rather with the firm resolve to adopt a distance and look at them from the outside, to find in them those situations that I experienced again and again during afternoons full of emotion and risk.

These documents are the product of this decision and the point of departure for all the processes involved in my work. They have guided me toward ethical approaches and formal solutions that involve concepts such as art’s connection to reality and to its very nature, and more importantly, the establishment of artistic values in my handling of the different media I have used since that time, including installations, sound art, and video.

The only source of light in these photographs is that provided by the movie screen, and these are real documents from one or another of the hidden cameras at the Faenza movie theater downtown.
